All About Second Grade
Subjects:
Reading: We study various genres such as fiction, nonfiction, dramas, research, and poetry.
Writing: We study narratives, expository, dramas, poetry, and how to research and share.
Math: We dig deeper with number sense. Students learn how to manipulate numbers and build numbers. We study addition, subtraction, regrouping, multiplication, division, fractions, time, and more!
Science/Social Studies: At Wilmeth we use the Engaged Learning Model in science and social studies. In this model students will have the opportunity to learn through exploration, research, projects, team work, and individual work.
School Hours:
Our school day begins at 8:00a.m. and ends at 3:00p.m. Students are considered tardy if they arrive in the classroom after 8:00a.m.. Please help your child arrive to school on time so he/she does not miss out on great learning!
School Absence Line: 469-302-7410
**Please do your best to make doctor appointments for after 9:15a.m. in order for your child not to be counted absent.
Specials:
This year we are on a rotation schedule for Specials. We will try our best to share what day (1-5) we are on by placing this information in the newsletter each week. Please be sure to view the newsletter section.
**This can be found on the Wilmeth Web Page under Parent Resources.
Snacks:
Students may bring ONE healthy/nutritional snack to school each day. Please do not send wet snacks, or snacks that require a spoon. Students are often working/learning while eating their snack and still are in need of their hands. Some classrooms may be "Peanut Free", so please check with your child's teacher before sending anything made with, or around nuts. Students may bring a water bottle with a secure lid. Thank you!
Take Home Folder:
Students will be given a Nicky folder to take home each night. Please be sure to check it every night, especially on Tuesday's. This is one way your child's teacher will communicate/send information home (including graded work).
Volunteers:
We love volunteers at Wilmeth! We feel blessed each and every day to have such wonderful, supportive parents (including our fabulous PTO). If you are interested in volunteering, please contact your child's teacher. Each teacher sets up his/her parent volunteers differently. Thus, the best way to get involved is to go through him/her. As a grade level we are in need of copy parents and parent volunteers for Friday lunches that will be once a month.
